August 30

Bikes are finally completely done. Just need to get them both back home and washed before we set out on the trip. Should be able to get that completed early Saturday morning before it gets too hot out to wash them.
Then I need to start thinking about packing for the ride. I'd like to get it done tomorrow but I know that I'll be doing it Sunday morning before we leave. Gotta keep going with the whole Last Minute thing I have going on.

August 29

Just prepping Mark's scooter for the trip; oil change, new tires, etc. when I noticed a weeping fork seal on the left fork leg. Crap.,
Off come the forks and I installed a new seal. Mind you, it was 96F here in Indy today and the shop has little air movement and no air conditioning. Hotter than a hot thing. SO this was about as far as I got....

Will slap the forks back on tomorrow, (Friday), and do a quick brake job on the front. Should have it finished up about 20 hours before Mark's arrival in the States.

Nothing like cutting it close.

The basic plan was to pick up the bikes in Indy (Mark on my trusty old Honda ST1100 and me on the less trusty BMW GS) and head southwest towards the Grand Canyon. Then north to the Salt Flats before heading east into Colorado and the Rocky Mountains.

We hope to do daily updates here for friends and family to follow along.

More to come......

Midsummer in 2013 and Mark and I hatch a half baked plan for a western tour of the USA on bikes. We picked out a couple of destinations; Bonneville Salt Flats, Grand Canyon and a few Route 66 stops on the way.
The rest of the route kinda planned itself...
